About Me

Cappy Counard creates jewelry and sculptural objects that reflect her curiosity about relationships. Intrigued by the reactions and interactions that transpire between people, she explores the notions of work, care, storytelling and repair in the objects she makes.

Cappy graduated with an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1999 and a BS in Art from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1992. She became a Professor of Jewelry and Metals at Edinboro University in 1999. Cappy exhibits and lecturs about her work and research throughout the United States. Her pieces have been featured in many books including, New Earrings 500+ Contemporary Jewelry Designs, Narrative Jewelry: tales from the toolbox, Behind the Brooch, 21st Century Jewelry: The Best of the 500 Series and The Metalsmith Book of Boxes and Lockets.

Cappy Counard has taught workshops in universities across the country as well as at Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Peter’s Valley School of Craft and Touchstone Center for Crafts. Teaching is as integral to her practice as making.  The act of building community and sharing knowledge contributes greatly to the evolution of her work.
