About Me

Dr. Dan Shifflet is a Professor of Mathematics at Pennsylvania Western University.  After Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from Wittenberg University, he completed his PhD at Bowling Green State University and joined the Clarion faculty in 2011.

Dr. Shifflet is a huge proponent of all things mathematics, as evidenced by giving more than 50 presentations across numerous different topics. He is also a member of the so-called ‘Traveling Mathematics Department’ at Clarion that shares the mathematics of origami, game shows, and cake cutting to local area high schools.

Dr. Shifflet is an active member of the Mathematical Association of America, recently serving as Chair of the Allegheny Mountain Section and Chair of the Committee on Section Bylaws. He has also served as a continuous member of the curriculum committee at Clarion and PennWest since 2014.

Dr. Shifflet teaches a wide variety of courses across all levels of mathematics. When he’s not telling corny math jokes in class, he is helping students on projects in Discrete Mathematics and Game Theory or doing research in Algebra and Number Theory.
