About Me
Dr. Camille Dempsey is an Associate Professor of Education and the Program Coordinator for the M.Ed. Specialty Program in Educational Technology and Online Teaching. She teaches undergraduate and graduate students, Prior to working in higher education, Camille has served as a pre-k to 12th grade teacher and as a non-profit administrator. Her academic background includes degrees from Duquesne University, Columbia University Teachers College, University of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts. Camille is a scholar, and cultural and media theorist who has been recognized internationally for her work in educational technology in education. Dr. Dempsey has served as faculty in the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) K-12 Artificial Explorations program, helping over 100 educators to integrate AI into their programs and schools. She has the Quality Matters Online Teaching Certification, is a QM Higher Ed Peer Reviewer for Online Courses, and has many other technology certifications.
Honors include being selected as a Faculty Research Fellow in Artificial Intelligence through the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and as an EDSAFE AI Alliance Catalyst Fellow. She was awarded a “20 to Watch” award in educational technology from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the state “Educational Technology Impact Award,” for her article, The spirit of the times: Virtuality culture and technology-mediated human presence from the Technology Education Research Journal through the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology Association (PAECT). Camille has also received the Ero W. Davidson State Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Technology & Communications from the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology (PAECT).
Dr. Dempsey is a leader in her profession and has presented widely at many local, regional, state, national, and international conferences. Her research focuses on the ways society is connecting, exploring, and communicating through contemporary technologies, as well as how they restructure human consciousness and mediate presence and connection. Camille founded the Theory of Virtuality Culture and recently she has been investigating intersections between generative AI, education, and contemporary virtuality culture.
She has served as a consultant with the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Educational Technology, as a grant panel facilitator and reviewer, the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a higher education program reviewer and provided professional development in educational technology and other areas to organizations in the region and around the world. Most recently she also worked with Moroccan professors in a professional development series helping them with how to integrate AI into their teaching and learning practices, along with exploring ethical AI and policy issues.
Camille also serves as a Google Women Ambassador, a Google AI Mastermind for Women, a Google Educator Group Leader, an International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Community Leader, a Pennsylvania Keystone Technology Integrator, and volunteers for different causes through the Presque Isle Daughters of The American Revolution organization. Camille has served on the steering committee for the Northwest Pennsylvania STEM Ecosystem, an advisory board member for the Center for Qualitative and Semiotic Inquiry (CQSI), and a past higher education representative for the Pennsylvania Association for the Educational Communications and Technology Association (PAECT). She also serves as an advisor for the Student Chapter of Pennsylvania Association for the Educational Communications and Technology Association (PAECT) on campus.
