PennWest Edinboro promotes wellness with campus-wide programming

Memorial walk, outdoor activities set for annual Stories of Strength (S.O.S.) Day

The Edinboro girl's basketball team participates in the Memorial Walk during Stories of Strength (SOS) Day 2023.

PennWest Edinboro will shine a light on mental health with its annual Stories of Strength (S.O.S) Day on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Held each September, the campus-wide event promotes mental health wellness through the facilitation of positive coping strategies.

Outdoor activities and games, information tables offering creative self-care strategies, giveaways and a visit from therapy dogs will occur from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Frank G. Pogue Student Center.

A memorial walk is set for 6 p.m. at Sox Harrison Stadium. The walk, which is open to the public, represents a beacon of light, providing signs of hope to the campus community and raising awareness of the resources available to students and community members.

Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the PennWest Pantry, a service that aids current PennWest Edinboro students.

S.O.S. Day is organized by the Wellness Task Force with the participation of 24 campus departments and approximately 20 community-based agencies. The event, which serves approximately 800 students, faculty, staff and community members annually, is sponsored by Student Health Services and PSECU.

Students assist with planning, registration, coordinating activities and setup/cleanup.
