PennWest Department of Nursing and Health Professions invites students, faculty and staff to “Human Trafficking: What Is It and Where Does It Happen?” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 15, via Zoom. Jaco Booyens Ministries, a national platform for human trafficking, will present the program.
According to the United States Department of State, in the U.S., traffickers compel victims to engage in commercial sex and to work in both legal and illicit industries and sectors. These include hospitality, traveling sales crews, agriculture, janitorial services, construction, landscaping, restaurants, factories, care for persons with disabilities, salon services, massage parlors, retail services, fairs and carnivals, peddling and begging, drug smuggling and distribution, religious institutions, child care and domestic work.
Learn about this crime and how to recognize when there is trouble. Gain valuable information about what human trafficking is, where it happens, how and why it happens, and who is involved. Human trafficking can be stopped only by understanding its signs and raising awareness.
