PennWest plans official presidential installation

Dr. Jonathan Anderson to be inaugurated as Pennsylvania Western University’s second president on Dec. 6

Faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members are invited to attend this significant event in the university's history. This inauguration marks a pivotal moment for PennWest as it continues to build upon its mission of providing a life-changing educational experience for students and serving the communities of western Pennsylvania. 

For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will also be available via livestream at pennwest.edu/inauguration. Watch parties are scheduled at 2 p.m. at the following locations: 

  • PennWest Clarion: Gemmell Student Center, Multipurpose Room 
  • PennWest Edinboro: Pogue Student Center, Multipurpose Room 

Following the investiture ceremony on Dec. 6, a reception will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Elmo Natali Student Center's Heritage Lounge on the PennWest California campus.

Dr. Anderson began his tenure as president of PennWest on July 1, 2024. Prior to this role, he served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Southern Utah University. His extensive experience in higher education administration includes positions at Middle Georgia State University and the University of West Georgia. Under Dr. Anderson’s leadership, PennWest has already achieved remarkable milestones, including an increase in retention, a 9.5% increase in online enrollment, and a 9.4% rise in new graduate enrollment during the fall 2024 semester. The university also secured a $3.2 million gift for early childhood education and launched the PennWest Center for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies, positioning itself at the forefront of innovation and community engagement.  

An advocate for connection and dialogue, Dr. Anderson hosts “The Power of PennWest” podcast, where he engages with students, faculty, alumni and staff to share stories and insights that shape the university.
