PennWest California’s Theatre Department will present the 2016 Broadway musical “Bright Star” Feb. 21-23 in the main theatre of Steele Hall.
The Tony-nominated musical, written and composed by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, weaves bluegrass and folk music together to tell a tale of love and redemption set in the American South during the 1920s and 1940s.
Junior McKinley Klotz and senior Quenten Zboyovsky star as Alice Murphy and Billy Cane, respectively. Junior Aiden Cheek portrays Jimmy Ray Dobbs, while junior Emily Bittner plays Margo Crawford.
The musical will open 7 p.m. Feb. 21, continuing with showings at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 22, and a final showing at 2 p.m. Feb. 23.
