PennWest University announces a new fund to celebrate 321 World Down Syndrome Day. The fund will provide support for activities celebrating the day and an annual award for education majors planning on working with special populations.

The 321 World Down Syndrome Day Fund at the California, Clarion and Edinboro campuses will support students who are committed to serving children and teens with learning disorders, developmental delays, or other special educational needs.

Based on funds available, an annual award will be made to a student selected on each campus. To be eligible, students must submit an essay of no more than 500 words that outlines their current work with children and teens with special needs, as well their career plans to work with these populations.

Essays should be emailed to Dr. Tim Stevenson at tstevenson@pennwest.edu, associate dean of the College of Education, Arts and Humanities, for consideration. The deadline is March 28, 2025, to be considered for the spring 2025 semester.

This fund is a meaningful way to honor World Down Syndrome Day and inspire future educators dedicated to supporting individuals with unique learning needs.
