Pennsylvania Western University is excited to announce the establishment of two endowed scholarships to support local students in the fields of computer science, engineering technology and science education.
The Dennis E. Wisnosky Family Scholarship
Dennis Wisnosky, a distinguished alumnus of California State Teachers College, has established a scholarship for students enrolled at PennWest California in the computing and engineering technology programs who graduated from the Trinity Area School District in Washington County.
Wisnosky, a 1965 graduate, served as chief architect and chief technical officer for the Department of Defense and recently founded the Enterprise Knowledge Graph Foundation. In the private sector, he consulted for over 25 years, led his own Wizdom companies, authored seven books, and received numerous accolades, including being named a "Hero of US Manufacturing" by Fortune Magazine in 1997.
He earned the W.S. Jackson Medallion of Distinction from California in 1992 and holds degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Dayton.
The Dr. Joseph Zisk and Nancy Zisk Scholarship for Excellence in Science Education
This scholarship honors Dr. Joseph Zisk and Nancy Zisk for their significant contributions to science education. It will be awarded to incoming freshmen enrolled on the PennWest California campus majoring in middle or secondary science education with a minimum high school GPA of 2.75.
Preference will be given to students with financial need and those from the Bethlehem-Center School District.
Joseph Zisk, a 1973 graduate, taught high school science and supervised the science and technology education program at the California campus. Nancy Zisk, a middle school science teacher, was an adjunct professor at the university.
