PennWest reduces price, enhances dual enrollment program

Lower costs and more access to classes highlight changes to dual enrollment program for high school students to earn college credits

Effective Spring 2025, Pennsylvania Western University is enhancing its dual enrollment program to offer more affordable options and greater flexibility for high school students. 

Key updates to the PennWest University dual enrollment program – which provides high school seniors and juniors the opportunity to take college classes through PennWest Online – include: 

  • Reduced Cost: Dual enrollment courses are now just $75 per credit for Pennsylvania residents and $87 for out-of-state students. 
  • Unlimited Credits: Students can take an unlimited number of credits per academic session. 
  • Expanded Course Selection: Nearly 50 courses are available. 
  • Simplified Application: A streamlined form makes enrollment quicker and easier. 

“PennWest is enhancing access to higher education for high school students by offering more affordable college-level courses,” said Dr. James Fisher, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at PennWest. “We are excited to deepen our collaboration with regional school districts to ensure students have unparalleled access to higher education opportunities.”

In addition to the program updates, PennWest is offering innovative collaboration opportunities with school districts, including: 

  • Enhanced Campus Engagement: Dual enrollment students can experience campus life through tours, class visits, faculty interactions, and Career Center access. 
  • Career Pathways Support: Programs and events to assist students with career planning. 
  • Flexible On-Campus Scheduling: On-campus courses designed for seamless integration into students’ school schedules. 
  • On-Site Teaching Options: PennWest faculty may teach at partnering schools for districts farther from campus. 
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for teachers and staff to earn Act 48 credits through tailored workshops and training. 
  • AI and Emerging Technologies Collaboration: School districts can partner with the new PennWest Center for Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies to prepare students for tomorrow’s workforce.
