Become a specialized nursing professional equipped to provide critical care and support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence. At PennWest University, our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program offers Registered Nurses the advanced training needed to serve adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients affected by violence. With a focus on rural and underserved communities, this program addresses the need for trauma-informed, forensic nursing care that aids both patient recovery and legal processes.

The SANE program, housed within PennWest’s Department of Nursing and Health Professions, combines expert instruction with immersive, hands-on learning. Through a blend of online modules and in-person sessions with experienced faculty and industry leaders, this program offers certification pathways for both SANE-A (Adult/Adolescent) and SANE-P (Pediatric). Students receive full support, including stipends, travel, and paid certification fees, as they advance toward becoming community advocates in forensic nursing.
