The California Alumni Association, established in 1883, exists to support and promote the interests of the University and expand awareness of its achievements to the broader community.

It supports California's mission and goals as outlined in the University mission statement. The Alumni Association also makes a financial contribution to the University or provides similar benefits.

There are two classes of membership:

Regular members are graduates of California University of Pennsylvania or its predecessors - the State Normal School for the 10th District, Southwestern State Normal School, California State Teachers College or California State College.

Honorary members include all trustees and faculty members, all students who have formerly been enrolled for more than one semester (session), and friends who have expressed interest in the association and the University, as well as any person to whom honorary membership might be presented by action of the Alumni Association board of directors. Honorary members are not eligible to vote, to serve as voting members of the board of directors, or to hold office in the association.

Alumni Affinity Groups/Societies and Chapters

The Alumni Association's societies and chapters address issues common to particular groups of graduates or those who live in specific geographic areas.

The African American Alumni Society supports a scholarship fund and meets annually during Homecoming Weekend.

The Athletic Training Alumni Society hosts an annual gathering at the NATA convention and supports a a scholarship fund for Athletic Training students.

Alumni Association chapters in New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., host gatherings to keep alumni from their regions updated about people and progress at the University.

The Alumni Association Board of Directors

A board of directors leads the California Alumni Association and provides direction and support for the Office of Development and Alumni Relations by supporting scholarship initiatives and alumni events, including our annual Homecoming festivities. The board typically meets quarterly.  Board members may serve up to two consecutive terms.  Board vacancies are are typically filled after July 1. Individuals who participate in alumni events, support the University through philanthropic activities, and wish to  shape the direction of the Alumni Association are preferred.  Self-nominations are accepted.
