The School Psychology Clinic at PennWest California offers low-cost psychoeducational assessment services for community members from preschool to the twelfth grade. Clients work with master’s level candidates preparing to become school psychologists as an extension of our training process.  All supervision is conducted by faculty members who hold doctorate degrees and state certification in school psychology.

Under supervision, our candidates use best practice approaches and assessment tools to help answer questions and solve problems related to learning, academics, life skills, as well as social and emotional skills.

Psychoeducational Testing Services

School psychologists conduct psychoeducational assessments and make recommendations for eligibility of disabilities as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act and state education codes.  Thus, the diagnoses that school psychologists make are educational, not medical.  As such, assessment services available through the School Psychology Clinic align with the profession.

Some examples of common childhood disorders that school psychologists are trained to diagnose in relation to their impact on the child in the school setting include learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and depression. Gifted and school readiness referrals are also welcomed.

Most evaluations are completed with two visits to the campus clinic.  The first meeting will include a parent interview followed by a two-to-six-hour testing session with the child, depending upon the nature of the referral.  Upon completion of the evaluation, a report of the results will be written. A follow-up meeting to discuss the findings and recommendations will be scheduled within four weeks of the testing session.  While clients are encouraged to attend this meeting in person, a zoom meeting may also be scheduled.   A copy of the final report will be provided to the parent of the client. If requested, reports may also be given to professionals involved directly with the client with written permission.
